What is the Perseid Meteor Shower?
The Perseid meteor shower is an annual event caused by the Earth passing through the trail of a comet named Swift-Tuttle. It is active from July 14 to September 1, and can best be seen in the Northern Hemisphere.
This year, there will be a 1st quarter moon on August 12, the predicted date of the peak. It is best practice to find a viewing spot away from a city or suburb, where light pollution does not have as much of an effect.
