A pulsar is a rotating neutron star with a strong magnetic field. This field expels radiation along the two magnetic poles of the star, which produces a beam of light. From Earth, the beam appears to “pulse” at us as the magnetic poles cross over Earth.
A quasar is an active nucleus of a galaxy. Fed matter by a supermassive black hole at its center, it releases massive amounts of radiation. Quasars produce extraordinary amounts of light. In fact, they are one of the most luminous objects in the universe.
